Production: Props and stuff

Image
Today I'm going to talk about the most random things ever, because I've officially run out of stuff to talk about. I'm holding off on finishing editing for blogs due in March. Right now, I can probably talk about costumes and if they were involved. They were not. The closest thing to a costume was just having one of my friends put on a hood to conceal their identity. It hadn't crossed my mind to use any costumes or props. I most likely thought this because I figured that they weren't necessary. Turns out, I was actually right. I don't really see any place for props in my movie, or costumes. I think things worked out pretty fine without props. Well, now that I think about it, would butter count as a prop? A stick of butter was used in the movie, and now I don't know if it counts. I mean, it was real butter, so why would it count? Aren't props supposed to be fake? Oh well, that should just be up for debate. I want to talk about something personal, if that&

Production: More Film Stuff...

So I'm running out of things to talk about. I don't even know what to type here. To make matters even worse, I have more blogs to do in March. I'm tired of typing 20 sentences like nearly every day, so let's get this over with. I'm just gonna talk about techniques I used to film. In the filming process, I made sure to use multiple angles. For example, I did a high angle and a low angle. I believe that angles in film are super important, as they help to create meaning. They can also tell more of a story than the plot itself can. A low angle on a character can show they are powerful or intimidating. This is because the camera would mimic a person looking up at them, with the character looking down. It establishes a type of power dynamic between two characters. I also made sure to pan the camera to show the scenery. Another thing I included was a type of shot where you can only see the upper half of the character. I forgot what this shot was called, though. Over the sh

Production: Editing Process Has Begun

Instead of being lazy, I went ahead and put the video clips together in iMovie. It looks kind of plain right now. My favorite part of editing is cleaning things up. I love trimming out the random bits of film that weren't supposed to be there. Personally, I find it really satisfying. Having a clean base to work with is one of the greatest things ever, and I can do whatever I want with the video. I actually ended up just not bothering to pay for any fancy apps. This is because I remembered that I'm broke and just spent my money on clothes. Unless I get a job, I don't think I'm going to buy any editing softwares. I tried to get a job but nobody wants to hire a 15 year old for some reason. So far, I just have clips that are put together without any effects added. I made sure to trim off any excess film that got in there from me starting the recording too early. I also began the search for something super important, music. I know I need to have music that's copyright f

Production: Exploring Softwares

Image
I remember back when I first got into making videos on YouTube at 9, I would spend hours searching the App Store for a reliable software. Something free, without obnoxious watermarks, and easy to use with plenty of options. I specifically remember Video Star, Kinemaster, and CapCut. I've seen and tried way too many apps to remember at this point. However, this was back in 2017, so it's been 7 years. I'm sure by now there are more apps out there with more advanced features. Getting an iPad really was a game changer for me, because iMovie is free, simple, doesn't have a watermark, and I love using it to put clips together and trim them as needed. Today, I'm finding myself in that position my 9 year old self was in 7 years ago. I've been scrolling and doing so much research on the best editing apps. It's not really a requirement for me to find a new app, because I've got my usual iMovie and Videoshop. Although, I do want to experiment with the new software

Production: Filming Day

Image
Since I already filmed my project, I’m going to talk about how filming day went. I remember the exact day I filmed, December 16th. This was right before winter break began, and it was a Saturday. Me and my elementary school best friends were having a sleepover at one of their houses, and she had her house all decorated for Christmas. Holidays at that house are always the best. It's like living in a hallmark movie, just magical. Anyway, I had asked my friends if they wanted to help me with my movie. I didn't have anyone else to film with, and they were the only people I had available. The location was really nice, I mean, it's my best friend's house. It's one of the best places on earth. The timing was also just super convenient, so I figured that I would film then and get it over with. I'm glad I did, because I really feel like I'm one step ahead of everyone. Most people are just now getting to filming, but I basically am done. Well, not really, I still nee

Production: Script/Screenplay

My script doesn't have much dialogue whatsoever. It actually only has two lines where the characters speak. The point of the lack of speech in the script is to create a sense of mystery and suspense. I want whoever is watching to be confused as to what's happening. This will have them wondering what this suspicious character is about to do. I will copy and paste my script here so that you can read it. INT. CHARACTER 1'S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DUSK To establish the scene, Character 1 is seen setting up the Christmas tree.  EXT. CHARACTER 1'S HOUSE - ACROSS THE STREET - DUSK  Character 2 stands menacingly outside Character 1's house, with the objective to enter.  EXT. CHARACTER 1'S HOUSE - THE BACKYARD - DUSK Character 2 decides to enter through the back where they will not be seen. They jump the fence, their identity remaining obscured INT. CHARACTER 1'S HOUSE - KITCHEN/DINING ROOM - DUSK Character 1 is seen preparing something in the kitchen, seemingly unawa

Production- Making Plans

Image
I've been one or maybe two steps ahead of everyone for a while. Since December, I've already filmed the clips needed for my final task. To be honest, I've been lazy and I've been avoiding editing them. I kind of want to leave that until the beginning of March. This is because by that time I will have finished all of my blogs. Anyway, the process of making plans for filming was relatively easy. I knew I was going to meet up with my best friends from elementary and have a sleepover for Christmas. I decided to take advantage of this and asked them if they'd help me with my final task. Because they're my best friends, of course they said yes. We did this specifically on December 16th, and waited until sunset was nearing. I wanted the lighting to be just a little dark but not to the point where you couldn't see anything at all. Once the time was right we set out to film my final task. It was really fun, a lot more than I thought it would be. Up until that point

Production- Editing Software

Image
For my last project, the music video, I used iMovie. This time, I might use more than one software at a time. iMovie is my go to for adding clips together and adding overlays with music. It's really basic, and easy to use. It also gets the job really well, and you can make some professional looking videos if you're good at filming. I'd say I'm an amateur, because I have great ideas, but the execution never comes out to be how I imagined it. Because I plan to edit the title sequence, I'm going to use one of my long time favorite editing softwares for this: Videoshop. I've used this app since I was nine years old, and I actually really like it. Over time, it's gotten so much better as an editing app. Despite the fact that there's a watermark, I've found that it disappears after about 7 seconds. Ever since I realized this, from then on every video I've edited always had a random picture as a cutoff that lasted for that 7 seconds. Afterwards, I just
